Clockwork Solutions, Inc. (CSI), provides world class clients with advanced demand forecasting technology and consulting services. Clockworks Solutions' Advanced Total Life Cycle Assessment Software Tool (ATLAST™) simulation model was specifically designed to support life-cycle simulation-based logistics impact forecasting for new and aging weapons system fleets. Clockwork uses the ATLAST™ tool to perform sophisticated simulations that answer important questions that can save their clients (such as the US Marine Corps) a lot of money or provide a higher operational availability, by having the right parts deployed to the right places at the right time.
Clockwork turned to Falafel software to develop state of the art visualization software that would help explain the studies performed for their clients. The software would need to explore, explain and ultimately tell the story of each study in a compelling, understandable yet rich way, combining animations, easy navigation and deep data and results drilldown in the same package. The visualization solution will become an integral part of the Clockwork Solutions Predictive Logistics Enterprise Solution.
Falafel software’s designers worked with Clockwork’s engineers to prototype a solution which was then developed and delivered using Silverlight for the presentation, and SQL Server for the back end data store. The solution was built in a data driven away that allows Clockwork’s analysts to add additional studies to the tool with no additional development needed. Other technology used was Microsoft RIA Services, Entity Framework, and Telerik RadControls for Silverlight. Falafel was able to use some off the shelf components, but also designed and built a suite of innovative visualization components, including a Study Animator that ties an animated map to a series of time synchronized graphs, and a custom Storyboard control to organize the information in the study.
